The Manic Road

The manic road meets the frenzied sky,
As words in indelible ink sprawl the sunset,
Like the most beautiful evening,
Of the ones from childhood’s treasury.

The manic road is long gone,
Yet it appears in my dreams,
To wake me in cold sweat,
To remind me of all that frenzy.

So to the manic road I have returned,
And sped down it ,
To the point of no return,
And now sleep does not break in cold sweat.

The manic road now runs within me,
Showing me how to walk other roads,
As for words sprawled in indelible ink,
Some words cannot be erased.

  17. Love your use of the word sprawl, as in "sprawl the sunset," very clever.

  18. the power of words is under-rated. If people only believed and understood this, our schools and universities would be amazing places - but for so many, they are wasted years.

  23. "As words in indelible ink sprawl the sunset,"
I love this line, it speaks to what we as writers try to do, try to capture. Very nicely written.

  25. "most beautiful evening...ones from childhood’s treasury."

This part struck me especially...there're so many memories that we hold in treasury...

  26. The manic road now runs within me,
Showing me how to walk other roads,.... If we don't learn from our experiences then what is the point? Excellent thoughts here!

  30. I really love that now sleep no longer breaks in cold sweat. Nice!
A tiny editorial thing--bugs me enough that I mention it to you, the two lines beginning the second stanza start with But and then Yet:
But the manic road is long gone,
Yet it appears in my dreams,
I would eliminate that But and just start your stanza with "The manic road is long gone." I hope it's okay to make such a suggestion, made with the friendliest intentions... I really like this poem!

  31. "some words cannot be erased" That's the curse of the internet. Some words deserve eternal bit speed, others permanent delete.

  35. Words extended can never be retracted. Sometimes they bring good memories though one must anticipate some likely bad ones! Truly said Suyash!
